Amelia Abascal Biography
Amelia Abascal (born 1923) is a Mexican painter, sculptor, and ceramist of Spanish origin. Born in Madrid, she was primarily self-taught. After arriving in Mexico in 1940 she took classes in chemistry. She specializes in relief sculpture, but has also produced murals. She was one of four artists to represent Mexico in 1968 at an exhibition in Argentina of Latin American painting. She also held a solo show at the Misrachi Gallery in Mexico City that same year. Her work involves treating bronze and copper sheets with acid to create an eroded texture.
